Facebook Timeline, the about section is a very handy way to share essential information for your local business marketing.
1. You have a limited of 155 characters in the about section. It is a good place to give essential information your web address and how people can contact you – phone number or email.
2. To make the website address clickable you need to start with http://website for example http://socialmediaforbusinesses.co
3. In this space describe your business that people understand what you business provides as a service or product etc.
4. The about box is automatically linked to information section of your Facebook Page. That gives you a better opportunity to describe your business in more detail.
Here is a little video to show you how I added these details

Thanks Rosemary for these tips. I ahev to admit that when I was told FB changed it’s timeline this made me feel frustrated because of the time involvd to changing the profile.
Now I have a new banner that will be on the 1st of April and your tips that are easy to use make things easier!
Thanks for your clarity in this video at each step of the process;)
Take care;)

Patricia,
Delighted you found the tips easy to follow. That is great you have the new banner. When you have it in place you will find you adapt quicker than you would expect. But there are a lot of new features that can offer extra ways to communicate with your customers. Thanks for coming back to my blog. take care Rosemary

The About section of any social platform is very important. Your tips are good ones Rosemary. I might also add to include your name if it isn’t prominent on your Cover image. Why? This allows your visitors to feel more connected when they ‘like’ your page and become a fan.
Can’t tell you how many Fan Pages I come across and businesses are using just a logo and everything is in 3rd person. If you want folks to engage, connect, trust and become a client or customer – get personal and respect your audience by sharing your name. You will see tremendous results in doing so.

Lynn,
You have given excellent advice and I agree with you using ones own name makes a big difference to build trust and confidence for people to wish to do business with us.
I would consider it the same as introducing yourself when you meet someone in the offline world .
Thank you very much for joining my Facebook page. Take care Rosemary

Hi Rosemary, This is something that I need on my Facebook site. I’m going to bookmark it and get started in a couple days. I really like how professional it looks and describe what you do in a better way than I’ve been shown in the past.

Rick,
Delighted you found this helpful , good luck with making the changes to your page. It is a good idea to put pictures on the tabs to make them stand out . The size is 111 x 74. If you have any question do feel welcome to ask me on the Facebook Page. It is great that you understand me as getting the timing right takes practice not to be to fast or slow as we learn in different ways. Take care Rosemary

Thanks for the great information Rosemary. I have been working hard to establish a great presence on Facebook this past six months and its good to have a reminder of some of the simple things that we tend to forget.

About section is one of the Hotspots on a fanpage that gets lots of attention, Proper use of this place can yield wonders! Never noticed that you are limited to 155 chars. Thanks for that : )

Anoop, you are very welcome. I do check the about section before I like a page myself. It is a great opportunity to give the right introduction to your business. Take care Rosemary

Great advice Rosemary – in fact it’s important to keep up to date with all of our profiles. I came across one of mine the other day at an article directory I haven’t visited in awhile and was stunned how outdated it was – bad, bad me! I’ve now created a check list so whenever I make a change in my profile I go down through the list and change them all.

Marquita,
You have just given great advice. It is the advantage of social media being able to keep our customers updated. A spread sheet with all the profile’s that can be crossed off is a a good way to keep organised like our Gavin. Take care Rosemary
