Facebook Time Line Business Tip – Do You Want People to Use Facebook Messaging On Your Facebook Page?

Facebook Timeline For Your Local Business – Do you Understand The New Messaging System.

Last weekend I upgraded workingonthego business page to the Timeline

One of the first settings that I noticed was the new messaging system. I am testing it to see if I will keep it or not.

What are my concerns.

1. Firstly the first message I received with this system was spam which has not given me a lot of confidence in it . But it is early days yet.

2. Also running a business we need to keep forms of communication as simple as possible not to miss messages. I can imagine many of us would rather use a central system for people to contact us such as a contact form.

3. The good thing is that if you prefer you can disable the messaging system.

4. Also you can feature a logo for people to see how to contact you underneath the main cover photo.

I made a little video to show you how .

Great to learn how to add this feature Rosemary, but I’m pretty sure I won’t be using it. I think it makes sense for peoople who have direct contact with clients or who are building a downline, etc., but I’m a writer so the less noise the better for me … at least at this point. Thanks!

    • Marquita,

You are very welcome, I like the fact that this feature can be removed if it not how one wants to keep in touch with your clients. I would agree with you it would not be ideal for your particular businesses. Thank you for visiting and take care Rosemary

Excellent video. And you are right to talk about the subject of Facebook messaging. I myself am using an contact app which Kimberly had recommended on one of her excellent webinars.

    • Stevie,

Yes Kim offers some excellent advice with social media. The contact apps are very handy when you want to keep everything in one place. Also with it can be handy to see how many people are checking out your details. Take care Rosemary

Thank you for this great video. There is so much going on with the new Facebook Business Page, I cannot keep up.
The one thing that totally annoys me when I’m on Facebook working with my groups is that people pop up and message me all the time.
I thank you for showing me this tip of how to turn it off. I find it becomes a great distraction when I’m on Facebook.
Especially the people that say “do you have time to chat” which means they want to sell me something. If they are a pretty good friend of mine, I hate to be rude and end up listening to their pitch before I say no.
Now that can take so much time away from my busy schedule, so I will implement what you have shown me and turn it off!
    Thanks Rosemary,
    Donna Merrill

    • Donna, I agree with you about the people who leave those messages want to sell us something we do not want in the first places. I have never liked the chat feature on Facebook for that exact reason. Thank you for your feed back. It is great to see you coming back to this site often. take care Rosemary

Didn’t know where to take out the message button option. It is good to have it on. As in business communication is key as you mentioned. The new time line takes a little bit getting used to but it is not that bad.

    • Jacob, yes there is a bit to get used to with all the Facebook changes. I agree with you it is important for people to be able to contact us. But a lot of people like to use one central place for clients or customers to get in touch. take care Rosemary

    Hi Rosemary,
I didn’t even notice that there is this message button, I have turned to the new timeline a few days ago but I haven’t get use it and I haven’t got any message yet. In my opinion there is no reason to not have one since even if you get spam messages you can just ignore them…

    • Hi Kostas,

I can see your point, but I like where possible to get as many messages in one central place. Also I do not like getting spam and rather not get them rather than having to ignore them. You can also block IP addresses that are producing spam from wordpress sites through your control panel. Take care Rosemary

Thank you, Rosemary, for the very clear instructions on how to have the message function turn on or off.

Good to know the pros and cons of having the message option that way we can make an informed decision.
Having a contact form seems like a good alternative.

    • Hi Doug,

You are very welcome. I have kept the message option on my page but I am keeping it under review. There is a lot to be said for the contact form and having all your messages from customers etc in a central location. Delighted you came to visit this site. take care Rosemary
